In this month’s digest, we’re gonna be looking at some lesser-known SEO techniques that can help you increase your shop’s click-through rate, engagement and session duration.
All of these metrics have a significant impact on your SEO and shouldn’t be ignored.
It all makes sense: a user who spends a lot of time on your site sends strong signals to search engines that your shop is worth checking out.

1. How to Capture Leads & Grow Your Email List with Quizzes
If you’re looking to increase engagement on your website, quizzes are an excellent way to do it.
In his guest post on Bootstrapping eCommerce, Alex Birch writes about quiz marketing in details.
Quizzes do not only allow you to increase engagement rate.
You’ll also generate leads (for example, complete this quiz about fries and we’ll tell you what kind of potato you are!), and most importantly will allow you to segment your audience, based on their answers.
Take the following example:
This Beardbrand quiz allowed the brand to both educate the customer about their beard, and gave Beardbrand all the information they needed to then send the customer tailored content / product offers based on their profile: beard type, color, length—you name it.

2. How to Make Your Ecommerce Copywriting Sales-Ready
Click-through rate and session duration indirectly affect your search engine optimization.
Optimizing your meta tags is a good first step towards driving attention to your Shopify store and increasing your CTR.
But what about the rest of your copy—copy that makes visitors want to read more and stay on your site?
In his guest post on BigCommerce, Luke Bailey answers the following questions about ecommerce copy:
- Which words or phrases tend to trigger more sales?
- How long should your landing pages actually be?
- What does a good (and a not-so-good) conversion rate look like for an ecommerce landing page?
If you’ve been working on rewriting your copy, be it product pages, homepage or others, I recommend reading this in-depth article first.
3. Should you optimize your content for questions?
In one of their latest blog posts, Yoast explains why your content should be optimized to answer questions.
You’ve most likely already encountered one of those “People also ask” windows on Google:
Over the years, Google has gotten better and better at answering questions.
As a marketer, it is your job to provide the best, most comprehensive answers to these questions, so Google has a reason to rank your content higher in the SERPs.
Not to mention that, once again, questions are extremely engaging: if someone has a problem and turns to Google for answers, they are very likely to stay on your site for a long time, or at least until their question is answered.
Remember—if you want to rank higher, your site should be a hub of useful information and resources.
Answering questions is an excellent first step towards that goal, and Yoast makes a great job at highlighting the steps you need to take to get there.
