Welcome to the fifth post of my monthly “Shopify SEO Roundup” series!
Every month, I curate a digest of the most interesting posts I’ve come across in the last four weeks.
These can be simple blog posts or articles, infographics, and even podcasts, as long as they deal with the same topic: Shopify SEO (or SEO that can easily be applied to Shopify!).
Are you a Shopify merchant with a high interest in SEO, but no time to read the mass of posts out there?
This digest sorts the good from the bad—and the great from the good.
If you want to be part of the roundup next month, or you’ve just read a great piece I should know about, please send me the content (over at firstname.lastname@example.org) and I will include it in the next roundup!
This month’s digest will be all about ranking.
How do you get that coveted #1 spot? How fast can you get it, and what should you do in case of dramatic ranking drops?
Let’s not wait any longer to find out and check out the top posts for this month.
1. How To Write SEO Content That Ranks
If you’re writing any sort of content for your Shopify store or company blog, it’s because you want to get organic traffic (and sales) from it.
Therefore… you want it to rank.
But it can be difficult. As a matter of fact, 9 out of every 10 content pieces written for search engine users fail to attract any traffic.
You need a framework to work with—a proven way to write content that satisfies both users and search engines alike.
In his latest blog post on SEO Sherpa, Karl Tablante wrote an incredibly comprehensive guide on how to write SEO content that ranks.
It’s an advanced 8,000+ word step-by-step guide, so sit down with a cup of coffee (or your favorite drink) before you start reading this one.
Here’s a sneak peek:
This is a highly recommended read. Save it up and start writing content that ranks.
2. How to Reach the First Page of Google in 24 Hours [Case Study]
This post is a little different than the others: it’s not a blog post, an infographic, or a podcast.
It’s a forum post from user @nidup on Indie Hackers, in which he explains how he managed to reach the first page of Google within 24 hours.
The best part? His website is not that authoritative. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t rank very well at all.
Which means… any website can achieve these results.
It’s short, to the point, and most importantly genuine: @nidup doesn’t have that much to gain here, and just wanted to share a tactic that worked well for him.
If your store is new and you feel like you can’t rank well for any content—this post proves you otherwise.
3. How to Recover From Dramatic Ranking Drops
If you work in SEO, the last thing you want is for your hard work to go to waste.
You’ve spent countless hours creating and marketing quality content, rankings are going up…
… until they don’t anymore. In unfortunate cases, your rankings might drop by several dozens of positions.
It can be stressful, and it’s important to act swiftly.
In a recent post, Content King goes over the 13 steps you should take if your Google rankings dramatically drop.
It’s an excellent post to keep saved up in case (hopefully not!) your Shopify store suddenly drops in rankings.
I hope you liked this roundup and find the content in each of the pieces interesting. Let me know what you think in the comments!
If you have an amazing blog post, podcast or infographic you would like featured in next month’s roundup—please let me know, I’d be delighted to have a look!
