This is the first post in a fresh “Shopify SEO Roundup” publication series.
Every month, I will curate a digest of the best and/or most useful articles, podcasts, infographics, apps and interviews I’ve come across in the last 4 weeks.
The list is organized in no particular order and has no defined length, but always deals with the same topic: Shopify SEO.
I may sometimes touch on other subjects if relevant—although this should be rare!
If you’re a busy Shopify merchant with no time to read blogs, but still want to know the latest news, tips or strategies about SEO… I’ve got you covered.
And if you want to be a part of this fresh series next month, or just came across a great piece, please feel free to send me the content (over at firstname.lastname@example.org): I’m happy to look at anything related to Shopify SEO!
Let’s dive straight in!
1. The Unofficial SEO Podcast: Lessons from the #1 SEO App Developer
Do “SEO apps” really work? Should you buy backlinks, or will it hurt your rankings in the long run? What happens if you have to pause your business online?
All these questions, and many more, are answered in the interview. Both Kurt and Rhian are light-hearted and easy to listen to, which makes this podcast, in my opinion, very informative without being boring.
I highly recommend listening to this as soon as you can.
2. Blogging for Shopify: Going from 0 to 30,000 visits/mo in 8 months
There are hundreds of thousands of articles out there about how a blog can help your SEO tremendously.
Unfortunately, most of these articles feel like they have been written in a hurry, just to fill a website’s content calendar, and are incredibly generic.
This is why I’m a big fan of case studies. Instead of just providing advice, the content in case studies is actionable—which means you can replicate what the author did, for your own website, almost immediately.
In their latest case study, Ranq.io goes over the advantages of blogging for a Shopify store. They explain why product pages are not enough for your SEO, and how new, long-tail, open-ended keywords help you drive more traffic and more sales to your store.
They then proceed to prove their point with a case study that yielded impressive results: 30,000 visits/mo in just 8 months of work. Every step taken is described in details, including keyword research, content planning and single blog post results.
This is an easy-to-replicate case study targeted at Shopify merchants—so give this article a read when you get the chance!
3. A practical guide to image optimization for Shopify stores
Images make up for a lot of the resources of a Shopify store. In this hands-on article, Akohub goes over the best practices for image optimization on Shopify.
Are you using the WebP image format for all assets on your website? If not, you are making a significant mistake, and should consider making the switch as soon as possible.
You’ll also learn the optimal methods for naming your image files and alt tags, as well as the importance of image compression.
If you are not quite sure where to start with image optimization, this article should considerably help.
As a bonus to this section, I recommend AcquireConvert’s best image optimization apps for Shopify article for loads of free and paid app options that can assist you in the process of bettering your asset optimization.
I hope you liked this roundup and find the content in each of the pieces interesting. Let me know what you think in the comments!
If you have an amazing blog post, podcast or infographic you would like featured in next month’s roundup—please let me know, I’d be delighted to have a look!
